Heath Heikkila joined Ball Janik LLP in 2004 and helps his private and non-profit clients navigate and effect changes in natural resource, environmental and energy policies at the federal and state levels. He has worked on some of the West’s most challenging natural resource issues, including federal forest management, endangered species, Pacific Northwest salmon recovery and renewable energy development. He works closely with members and staff of the U.S. House and Senate, state elected and agency officials, and key personnel at federal agencies, including the EPA and the Departments of the Interior, Commerce, Agriculture and Energy.

Mr. Heikkila has consistently delivered results for a number of non-profit organizations, trade associations and cities by developing and implementing government affairs, communications or grassroots strategies to influence key decision-makers. He has helped a large segment of the forestry sector in changing policies and the positions of elected officials in relation to sustainable forest management. He also helped guide a newly established conservation organization’s public policy efforts related to fisheries conservation and salmon. He has extensive experience working with clients to navigate issues related to the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and other federal laws affecting fish, wildlife, land use and natural resources.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr.Heikkila served as a policy advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he focused on Western environmental and fisheries issues. He also served as an aide to a Washington State Senator and has been active in political and issue-based campaigns in several Western states.
