Tim Parks is a Ball Janik LLP partner who practices in the areas of real estate and business law. He provides comprehensive, business-oriented counsel that includes the ability to assess the tax implications, investment risks and financial opportunities of a wide range of business and real estate transactions. He has a broad base of experience in complex transactional matters, including the acquisition, sale and financing of real property, real estate syndications and private placement offerings, the transfer of property in tax-deferred exchanges and the development of commercial properties. Mr. Parks’ special knowledge of unique and complex real estate financing has helped earn him perennial recognition as an Oregon Super Lawyer and as a Chambers USA industry leader in real estate law.
Recently, Mr. Parks has focused significantly on the hospitality industry, assisting several regional hotel groups with numerous acquisitions, renovations and complex financing transactions. For the Pacific Northwest-based Provenance Hotels, he acts as outside general counsel for real estate, corporate and general business transaction needs.

Mr. Parks has extensive experience in “1031” exchanges. He has assisted buyers and sellers of all types of real estate in structuring transactions that range from straightforward exchanges to highly complex reverse construction exchanges and syndicated tenancy-in-common exchanges. As part of these transactions, he provides valuable pre-exchange strategic planning and realistic tax risk analysis.
Prior to joining Ball Janik LLP in 1997, Mr. Parks practiced with the Hershner Hunter firm in Eugene, Oregon, where his practice focused predominantly on transactions involving the timber and manufacturing industries.
