- Hoyt Street Yards
Ball Janik LLP represents Hoyt Street Properties, the developer of this mixed-use project on 40 acres of railyard in Portland's Pearl District, which the client how transformed into a high-density residential and commercial neighborhood.

- Annexation Overturned
In a case of first impression, Ball Janik LLP was lead counsel for the only property owner to successfully challenge the City of Beaverton’s involuntary “island annexation.”

- Caldera Springs
The Land Use practice assisted the developers of Caldera Springs, a new 390-acre Central Oregon resort community adjacent to the famed Sunriver Resort, in obtaining a destination resort overlay zoning designation, master plan approval and approval for subsequent individual phases.

- City of Donald – Expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary
The Land Use practice group represents Sutherland Development on a range of issues associated with a potential development within the City of Donald, Oregon. To date, we have negotiated an option on the development property and successfully defended a challenge to the City expanding its urban growth boundary.

- Crosswater
The Land Use practice handled the land use permitting for a major expansion of Sunriver known as Crosswater, a privately owned and operated golf and social club facility located in Central Oregon, 15 miles south of Bend, Oregon.

- IronHorse
The Land Use practice assisted Brooks Resources in obtaining all land use approvals from the City of Prineville to allow the development of the master-planned community, IronHorse.

- Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Area Master Plan
The Environmental practice group represented Mt. Hood Meadows Oregon Limited Partnership, which operates the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Area, Oregon’s most popular ski area, with regard to its master plan, and in a challenge by environmental groups in administrative proceedings and in U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.

- Natural Gas Pipelines
The Land Use practice helped a client obtain local land use approvals for a new interstate natural gas pipeline that will cross several counties in southern Oregon. We have also helped the client obtain land use permits for modifications of its existing pipelines.

- Non-Conforming Situation Review
The Land Use practice obtained a nonconforming situation review approval from the City of Portland that allowed a new yarn store to open on Hawthorne Boulevard.

- Northwest Crossing
Ball Janik LLP assisted the developers of NorthWest Crossing in implementing their cutting-edge vision of new urbanism in Bend, which includes a mixed-use, live-work development with vibrant streets and parks where people can walk to work, restaurants and shops and enjoy access to recreational activities.

- NW Portland Zoning Amendment
Our Land Use attorneys obtained a Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Map amendment for a property located in northwest Portland that had previously been used as a distribution center for a taxi cab company.

- Park 19 Luxury Apartments – Portland, Oregon
The Land Use practice helped our development client navigate the City of Portland’s complex historic design review process for the Park 19 luxury apartment project adjacent to Couch Park in Northwest Portland.

- PG&E National Energy Group
We represented PG&E National Energy Group (formerly U.S. Generating Company) in siting the 468-megawatt Hermiston Generating Project outside of Hermiston, Oregon.

- Pronghorn
The Land Use practice obtained all local land use approvals and federal right-of-way grants from the Bureau of Land Management for a 640-acre destination resort in Deschutes County with two world-class golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio.

- South Beach Village – Wilder
The Land Use practice group represents Landwaves, Inc. and Double E. Northwest, Inc. in connection with a mixed-use development of several hundred acres of land in the Newport, Oregon area. An existing timberland area will be converted to a vibrant village with commercial and high density residential uses at its core, a community college and workforce housing.

The Environmental practice is representing Lotus Group USA, Inc. and its subsidiary, LotusWorks – Summit Ridge I, LLC in seeking Energy Facility Siting Council approval for the siting, construction and operation of the Summit Ridge Wind Farm in Wasco County, Oregon.

- The Old Mill District
The Land Use practice has helped River Bend Limited Partnership develop and obtain approval of innovative new zoning provisions to allow redevelopment of a former lumber mill site of over 200 acres on the Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon, now known as the Old Mill District.

- The Running Y Ranch
The Land Use practice represented the developer site, the Running Y Ranch, a 5,000 acre destination resort on Upper Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon.

The Land Use practice is representing the Port of Portland as special land use counsel, assisting the Port with the creation of a land use strategy and concept plan for West Hayden Island.

- Westside Consortium – Bend, Oregon
Our Land Use attorneys participated in the formation of a consortium of land owners, both public entities and private developers, to address the inadequacies of the Westside transportation infrastructure in Bend.

- Yarrow and GMK Developments, LLC v. City of Madras
Our Land Use attorneys successfully helped a client achieve an urban reserve designation for 640 acres by Madras, Oregon and defended a challenge to the designation at the Oregon Court of Appeals. We also helped create a new Master Planned Community Overlay Zone to facilitate our client’s development of Yarrow, Oregon.
