Shipbuilders Council of America – Safety and Environmental Issues

Ian Bennitt of Ball Janik LLP’s Government Affairs practice serves as Manager of Government Affairs for the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the largest U.S. trade association representing the shipbuilding and repair industry. As part of this work, he helps SCA’s members address a wide range of worker health and safety, shipyard safety and environmental issues. A primary concern of SCA members is the promulgation of regulations that may be overly burdensome and costly to the industry. In an effort to maintain a balance between effective environmental health and safety and over-regulation, the SCA engages the regulatory process on any issues that could have negative effects on the shipbuilding and repair industry. On behalf of the client, Mr. Bennitt drafts, analyzes and tracks legislation and represents the SCA before federal agencies at every stage of the rulemaking process. He also acts as SCA’s liaison to industry coalitions and national alliances with OSHA and the EPA, and manages the organization’s seminars and events held throughout the country.
