Government Affairs and Administrative Law
Ball Janik’s legislative practice is based in Washington, DC, and our professionals specialize in assisting clients on a wide variety of federal matters involving transportation, natural resources, energy, environmental, taxation, trade, defense, and federal appropriations. We represent numerous business clients, state agencies, counties, cities, and trade associations.
Ball Janik has grown to become one of the premier federal lobbying practices in the Western states. Our success is attributed to attracting experienced, capable professionals who demonstrate expertise relating to federal issues and a logical management system, as well as an effective system for monitoring and controlling costs. Our bipartisan team combines demonstrated legislative and administrative accomplishments in addition to many years of experience in federal representation and administrative law. We have helped our clients secure millions of dollars in federal funding for specific projects and programs, and helped to secure favorable federal policies that advance our clients objectives and interests.
The firm’s Administrative Law practice also is based in Washington, DC, and concentrates primarily on the areas of transportation, natural resources, and international trade. The transportation practice involves representing numerous transportation interests before the Surface Transportation Board and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Clients include Class I railroads, regional railroads, short line railroads, rail suppliers, investment companies, and intermodal transportation companies. The natural resources practice focuses on the conservation of fishery resources, the use of renewable resources and the timber industry and involves the representation of clients before the Environmental Protection Agency and the Departments of Interior, Commerce, Agriculture, and State, as well as various international organizations. The international trade practice focuses on the representation of corporate interests before the International Trade Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, and trade-regulating agencies of foreign governments.
Ball Janik's government affairs and administrative law professionals are experienced in building coalitions and organizing grass roots lobbying campaigns, and we work regularly with trade associations and public interest groups. Examples of coalitions that the firm represents include the Coastal Conservation Association, the American Forest Resource Council, and the Shipbuilders Council of America.
The Government Affairs practice focuses its efforts on the processes of Congress and the executive agencies, specializing in federal government representation. Whether representing clients before the legislative or executive branches of the Federal government, Ball Janik professions know whom to contact, when to contact them, and how contacts can be made most effectively. We communicate regularly with members of the Congressional delegations with whom we work and their staffs, as well as with our clients, and have earned an excellent reputation for effective representation. We ensure that our clients understand (and are comfortable with) all of the nuances of the legislative and administrative processes and that our strategies are jointly developed to maximize success.
Ball Janik proactively solves problems for its clients. We are proud of our ability to maintain a bipartisan approach to accomplish set goals, while simultaneously drawing upon the political diversity of the Congressional delegations with which we work. We believe that it is better to establish close working relationships with the members of many Congressional delegations and their staffs, rather than focus only on the political party in power. We recognize, however, that the relationships our lobbyists have fostered with Members of Congress, Congressional staff and federal agencies are sometimes built upon Party traditions. Our professionals know how to utilize these relationships to maximize success for our clients and how to tailor issues that incorporate differences in philosophy, ideology and party loyalty. We understand that our ability to establish alliances and work effectively with politically diverse interests is critical to our success and can point with pride to the many accomplishments our approach has created for our clients.
We believe that our expertise, skills and acumen in federal representation are unmatched and unique. Ball Janik and its professionals have been serving municipal governments of varying populations, forms of governance and geographic diversity for more than two decades, and represents clients from throughout the country.
